SUMMARY:Next Gen Jam w/ Lick-Wilmerding High School Jazz Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:  \nOn the 1st Sunday of every month\, bands of local youth\, often fielded from one or another of the many fine music programs in colleges and high schools in San Francisco and around the bay\, perform a set\, then host a student-centric jam session for their peers. \nThis month features the\nLick-Wilmerding High School Jazz Ensemble \nLucas Yan\, trumpet\nImane Moosa\, tenor saxophone\nLyla Shapiro\, alto saxophone\nLeela Ganguly\, guitar\nThara Kempner\, guitar\nArmaan Mishra\, piano\nKazu Goka-Lee\, acoustic & electric bass\nColeton Namie\, drums\nZoe Williams\, drums\nIn these 1st Sunday student sessions\, we pay an honorarium to each student in the ensemble\, funded by your donations in the bucket at the door or through Venmo during the show. In the case of this ensemble from Lick-Wilmerding\, the musicians are in turn donating their honoraria to the Homeless Prenatal Program. Even their tips! \nSundays at 5pm\, there’s no set cover charge — pay what you will\, knowing that it’s going to a good cause — helping us pay working musicians and poets a fair wage\, and giving performance opportunities to the next generation. This evening\, every dollar you throw into the buckets goes to the Homeless Prenatal Program. \nDonate to the Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Program through our website or by check to keep the music and poetry going! \nWe thank Jazz in the Neighborhood\, a 501(c)3 nonprofit supporting the health of the local jazz musicians and live music scene\, for co-sponsoring our 1st Sundays student sessions! \n\n\nSUNDAY HAPPY HOUR!\nUnlike our Friday and Saturday programming\, there’s no stated cover charge for our 5pm Sunday shows.\nCome for a tune or two\, or stay for a set or the whole show.\nJust contribute what you can\, what you like\, what makes sense to you… \nBring your partner\, your kids\, your visitors… Call a friend! \nCome down to the bookshop and get better acquainted with your neighbors\nand recharge your spirit the start of another work week! \n*  *  * \nBird & Beckett’s cultural programming (well over 200 events each year — live music\, poetry readings\, etc.) is funded from three directions: \n— audience contributions & cover charges at the shows \n— tax-deductible contributions to our nonprofit organization\, the Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project\, a 501(c)3 charity\, from people like you; hundreds of individual donors offering support each year in amounts from $25 to $5\,000 & more each year\, to help us meet our $250\,000 budget \n— grants (which are few and far between) \nHelp keep San Francisco culture real and vibrant. Donate to the Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project if you possibly can!
