SUMMARY:POETS! Angie Minkin & Heather Saunders Estes + Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:Angie Minkin and Heather Saunders Estes both have new poetry collections out: LineageSongs and Crosswinds\, respectively. Come hear their poems\, and bring one of your own for the open mic to follow. \nFrom rolling the dice\, sliding down chutes\, climbing the ladders of memory\, or shooting free throws for the departed\, Angie Minkin’s Lineage Songs takes us on a journey where the poet speaks of love and kinship in the shadow of roosters who lack alarm clocks and any decent sense of timing. We zigzag from inner to outer world\, consider dreams of “prowling jaguars and river-drinking deer” and dance through an examined life as the poems question the status quo of what we believe\, war\, how we live with ourselves\, and\, finally\, how we reclaim our own loving presence and ancestry in this complicated world. \nHeather Saunders Estes is the Pushcart-nominated author of Inner Sunset\, Cloudbreak\, and All in Measure: A Book of Hours. She is also a co-author of Season Lightly with Salt with her beloved writing group. Her newest book is CROSSWINDS published by Blue Light Press in the coming month. As a former CEO of Planned Parenthood Northern California\, she finds solace\, hope and resilience in nature\, community and in the earth’s long view. A monthly free poem and more on her website\, HeatherSaundersEstes.com. \nMichael Koch and Jerry Ferraz are your hosts and MCs \nNo charge to attend or read. Donations appreciated to help us compensate the featured poets. \nPOETS! Every 1st Thursday\, featured readers followed by a community open mic.
