But nothing beats being in the room
with the music & the musicians!

25th Anniversary Fundraising Push!

We have so many plans, so many commitments and so little to rely on save hard work, luck and fate!

Make your mark on the culture by staking us to our plans, schemes, habits and dreams!

Jazz and poetry don’t pay well in this alternative reality we call capitalism! It’s the hardscrabble commitment of the average citizen and the largesse of the few that allow organizations like ours to pay the artists AND keep the lights on. Thank you those who have our back! We do it for you and with you, and for and with the artists.

If a tax deduction is a high priority for you, you’ll want to wait awhile before cutting us a check. We understand that, and in a few months we’ll have our nonprofit status back, we’re quite sure. Meanwhile, this drive is a pitch for non-deductible donations!

The Bird &  Beckett Cultural Legacy Project is on hiatus as a nonprofit while we reapply to the taxing authorities; that process in well underway, but will take ’til November; call Eric at the shop for information.

But if a tax-deduction is not your be-all and end-all, if the culture is your highest priority, then this pitch is to you!

Bird & Beckett operates as a bookshop Tuesday to Sunday, noon to six. Closed Mondays!

But in the evening, it’s a whole ‘nother kettle of fish.

Jazz every Friday evening
~~a show every Friday, 6-8pm
~~a second show most every Friday, 8:30-10pm
Jazz every Saturday night, 7:30-9:30pm
A grab bag of shows most every Sunday at 5pm
~~Americana, world music, classical music, and jazz, of course!

Poetry on the first Thursday of each month, 7-9pm

And more!

Get on down here!

Do we do it all from cash flow? No, Flo, it’s not that way!
We get just as close as we can that way,
but we get the rest of the way with community support!

If you’re part of our community, do what you can to support the bookshop that’s a bastion of the culture! Make a donation (cash, card or check, it’s all fine). We’ll extend a courtesy discount to you as a donor for the next twelve months. Decline the discount if you want to be extra generous. It all helps, and it’s what we rely on when expenses outrun the revenues in the buckets or at the counter.

And if you live nearby, or are willing to cross town, cross the continent, or cross the sea, come to a show and help pay the musicians and poets on the spot so that we don’t need to go deep out of pocket to pay the artists!

And buy books to help us keep the lights on, the recycler paid, the landlord paid, the accountants paid, the lawyers paid, the licensing agencies and insurance companies paid, and to keep the proprietor and his small staff fed!

We rely on you, and as Duke Ellington always said,

We love you madly!

/s/Eric, prop., since 1999

The Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project

Our events are put on under the umbrella of the nonprofit Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project (the "BBCLP"). That's how we fund our ambitious schedule of 300 or so concerts and literary events every year.

The BBCLP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit...
