At 5pm, a seven-piece jazz combo from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music leads off with a set,
and then the Terrence Brewer Trio takes the stage, opening with a short trio set
leading into a jam session for student players welcomed from anywhere in the Bay Area.

If you’re an aspiring jazz musician with a grasp of your instrument and a passion for the art form,
please come out!

Serious students of jazz performance looking forward to a life in jazz
from the high schools, community colleges, four-year colleges, private studios, parks and public squares
are invited to join their peers in a jam session with the Terrence Brewer Trio from 6-8pm.

This evening’s concert continues a series of Sunday student jazz showcase/jam session evenings. The first Sunday of each month, we’re pleased to host a jazz ensemble from a local school preceding a jam session led by a trio of Bay Area professionals. Co-produced and underwritten by Jazz in the Neighborhood and Bird & Beckett, the students in the combos receive a small stipend and the professional musicians receive a guaranteed fair wage.

December 5th at 5pm, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Roots, Jazz & American Music B.Mus. degree program closes out our 2021 series with the last in a sequence of four combos. In 2022, beginning with the February 6 performance of the 10-piece Urban High Jazz Ensemble, we open the series up to the many schools all around the Bay Area that have jazz education programs.

All aspiring to a career in jazz including those learning on the bandstands and in the public squares are encouraged to turn out for the jam session that concludes each outing. No advance sign up required, but come early to hear your peers and make yourself known to the trio that’s here for you.
