Fundraising for the future of
Bird & Beckett in Glen Park!

Here at Bird & Beckett Books, we’ve always relied on the
kindness of neighbors and strangers to make it all work;
and we’ve always found that strangers don’t stay strangers long!

Your tax-deductible donations to our 501(c)3 nonprofit,
the Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project, FEIN 261906810,
are the secret sauce.

Book sales and cover charges at the shows
are crucial, but only go so far to fill the
cornucopia of culture that you’ll find here
at Bird & Beckett!

Drop off or mail a check made out to the “Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project” — write “tax-deductible donation” in the memo line.

Cash is fine if you prefer.

Use your donor-advised fund if you have one. See if your employer offers a matching donation.

You can also donate through our website using PayPal, either as a one-time donation or on a monthly recurring basis.

Bright moments ahead, thanks to you!

The BBCLP makes it possible for Bird & Beckett to present live cultural events, paying a guaranteed fair wage to the musicians and at least a modest stipend to our featured poets, and also to pursue our publishing activities.

Where it stands now:

In 2024, Bird & Beckett celebrated a quarter century in business since our doors opened in May 1999 on Diamond Street, as well as 22 years presenting live music in the shop since weekly jazz evenings began in 2002. Now, we’ve been 26 years in business as a bookshop and 23 years presenting live music!

In August 2025, we celebrated 18 years of our nonprofit “Cultural Legacy Project,” to underwrite our ever-expanding calendar of live music and poetry, as well as our literary journal and chapbook publishing activity. The 501(c)3 BBCLP was created with the help of a hardy band of devoted store patrons in 2008 (the year we moved into our current digs on Chenery).

If you’re a first-time donor, a special thanks to you! You’ll be joining an intensely loyal group of supporters who we credit with keeping this cherished and unique Glen Park cultural institution alive.

A great many individual donors–mostly just neighborhood folks–have long favored us with annual donations ranging from $25 to the thousands of dollars. But they need your help. New donors are always needed as our commitments and ambitions continue to grow year after year. You’ll enjoy feeling that you’re part of a bigger community than you ever knew existed!

Where we’re headed:

Going into 2026, the neighborhood’s new, renewed and expanded support will ensure the longevity of a neighborhood fixture that’s become a jewel in San Francisco’s crown.

If you have grantwriting chops or experience in planning and executing fundraising drives, send us an email and we’ll add you to a team that’s been working hard to keep Bird & Beckett moving forward as we move through our second quarter century serving Glen Park and San Francisco, and the region’s great creative community — particularly the musicians here who make life bearable by offering up their talents!

We’re still needing to add a new board member who has accounting chops, a crucial role! Call Eric at the shop (415) 586-3733, if you think you’d like to get involved!

The Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project

Our events are put on under the umbrella of the nonprofit Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project (the "BBCLP"). That's how we fund our ambitious schedule of 300 or so concerts and literary events every year.

The BBCLP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit...
