Poetry and jazz are centerpieces of the Bird & Beckett cultural offerings. You’re on to something good!

Poets Diane Frank (While Listening to the Enigma Variations) and Stewart Florsheim (Amusing the Angels) read new and recent work on Wednesday, 10/16, at 7:30pm, opening with Bach compositions performed on cello by Erik Levins. Diane and Erik are both cellists in the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra. Diane’s Blue Light Press is a major conduit for poets throughout the western states.__

iterary raconteur Walker Brents III muses on Walt Whitman’s Democratic Vistas — another in a series of monthly talk he’s done here for years and years. Folks mostly take it in from our livestream, but you’re welcome to grab a chair in the shop for it. Free, donations welcome. Vote!
Scott Foster’s combo for his Third Friday 10/18 6-8pm jazz happy hour residency features Downtown Danny Brown on saxophone, Curtis Aikens on bass and Brian Fishler on drums. A terrific quartet! Donations help us pay a fair guaranteed wage. $20 suggested and appreciated; students $10; kids free.
In the late show Friday, 8:30-10pm, FILIPINA JAZZ (The Raquel Berlind Quintet) showcases music from Raquel’s new album. Raquel Berlind, vocals; David Ferrazares, sax; Kevin Gersevitz, piano; Heshima Mark Williams, bass; Alexey Berlind, drums/percussion. $25 cover charge ($20-30 sliding scale).
Lewis Jordan’s Music At Large plays Saturday night 10/19, 7:30-9:30pm. With this band, active in multiple configurations since 1976, Jordan “puts all his eggs in one basket,” incorporating music, theater, dance, poetry and visual art. Tonight, the focus is on the music. The Vince Lateano Trio continues their charming Third Sunday afternoons residency 10/20, 5pm. Always swinging and stress free. You’ll see. $20 helps us pay the musicians a guaranteed fair wage. BYOB.
