Literary raconteur Walker Brents III muses on Walt Whitman’s Democratic Vistas on Thursday, 10/17 — another in a series of monthly talk he’s done for years and years. Folks mostly take it in from our livestream, but you’re welcome to grab a chair in the shop for it. Free, donations welcome. Vote!

Scott Foster’s jazz combo for his Third Friday 10/18 6-8pm jazz happy hour residency features Downtown Danny Brown on saxophone, Curtis Aikens on bass and Brian Fishler on drums. A terrific quartet! Lewis Jordan’s Music At Large plays Saturday night 10/19, 7:30-9:30pm. With this band, active in multiple configurations since 1976, Jordan “puts all his eggs in one basket,”incorporating music, theater, dance, poetry and visual art. Tonight, the focus is on the music.
