Lily Stern has just completed her degree in music at the New School in Manhattan, and is home this summer, preparing her debut album and playing at venues this weekend from Mr. Tipples on Saturday to Oaktown Jazz Workshops and Bird & Beckett on Sunday. Catch her before she flies away!

Lily is a bassist, composer, vocalist and producer who came highly recommended by two friends of Bird & Beckett, both titans of local jazz and champions/mentors of young talent — drummer Myron Cohen and saxophonist Richard Howell.

Born and raised in the Bay Area, Lillian Charlotte Stern was immersed at a young age in music from funk, American folk and rock to traditional jazz, Afro Cuban jazz, Timba, and Hindustani music. The granddaughter of saxophonist and bandleader Charley Stern, she has been performing since age 8.

Lily studied for four years with Buster Williams and Reggie Workman at The New School College of The Performing Arts and graduated in May 2024 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in jazz bass performance and minors in psychology and dance.

Marvin Carter was born and raised in Brooklyn, and attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, class of 2018, where his foundation for performance and composition blossomed. While at LaGuardia High School, Marvin performed with prestigious bands throughout New York City such as the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra, as well as the Afro Latin Jazz Fat Cats led by Arturo O’Farrill. Carter has been a featured soloist with Arturo O’Farrill’s three-time GRAMMY award winning Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra at Birdland Jazz Club in NYC. Carter attended the Brubeck Institute in Sacramento, California. He was a member of the 2017 Vail Jazz All Stars in Vail, Colorado; toured with the Herbie Hancock Peer-to-Peer All-Star Jazz Sextet (San Diego) and with the JALC Youth Orchestra (London). , England in 2018. He graduated from The New School in 2022. Carter has worked with NEA Jazz Masters including Joanne Brackeen, Jimmy Owens, Jimmy Heath and Reggie Workman.

Gary Jones III is a 23-year-old percussionist and composer based in Manhattan. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Gary was influenced by gospel and hip hop music growing up. Currently attending The New School, Gary has been studying traditional, avant-garde, and contemporary jazz with a notable list of artists, including Buster Williams, Dave Glasser and Matt Wilson. Gary has worked and performed with prestigious artists including Terence Blanchard, Reggie Workman, Dominick Farinacci and Cisco Swank. His mission is to bring the community together through his music.

Tamir Lifshitz is a young Israeli guitarist and composer who lives in Brooklyn, attends New York University and is an active musician on the New York jazz scene, performing at venues including Ornithology Jazz Club, Fiction Bar, The Stone, Bar Bayeux and many others. In Israel Tamir has performed in prestigious jazz clubs including Beit Al Hamudim, Sheblul Jazz Club, Azor Club and Lebontin 7. Tamir’s compositions and playing combine a strong foundation of the jazz swing tradition alongside classical music and modern innovative interpretation.

Inbar Solomon is a 20-year-old New York City based saxophone player and multi-instrumentalist attending The New School. Born in Tel Aviv, Inbar quickly became a respected jazz saxophonist in the local jazz scene and has worked and performed with many reputable artists such as Jeremy Pelt, Joe Farnsworth, Shai Maestro, Ari Roland and many more. Inbar has played in venues and festivals around the world. He is deeply connected to the roots of Israeli music and draws great influence from it.
