Ibn Arabi, a Walker Brents III
Live Streamed Talk
(no live audience in the shop for this)

The mind of Ibn Arabi, says Walker, is like a mountain range, from which vast ecosystems of thought are continuously created.  He’ll assay to take you there to have a look at the nearness of this mind to us, in time-and-space terms, as well as take in a bit of the distance involved, as it relates to our on-going human journey.

Ibn Arabi (1165-1240) was a key mystic, philosopher and poet of the 500-year Islamic “Golden Era” that dates from the 8th century.

Walker Talks is a monthly talk (save the summer months) that Walker Brents III has been offering the Bird & Beckett community on diverse topics since the early days of the bookshop, beginning shortly after the turn of the century. During the summers, with his wife Joyce, he travels up the coast and down through the western states to Texas, where they both have roots, connecting with family and also taking stock of the familiar strangeness of the landscape they both know well. During the rest of the year, both work in education, and Walker is particularly skilled in holding the attention of small children while he plumbs strange yet familiar stories for the common and timeless questions they pose and truths they seem to hold; and he is also particularly skilled in musing on interesting subjects such as this one for the benefit of those who attend to his musings.

Your donations help us recompense Walker for his labors, and helps put food on his table. Thank you.

Find the live stream by “visiting” YouTube or Facebook and searching for Bird & Beckett’s channel on the former platform and its page on the latter, and once you’ve found your way to either “place,” look for a link that wants to take you to our live videos. It doesn’t do to go early, though. When it’s time–that is, when the talk goes live–if will suddenly appear, and not before.

Or you might try attending to the video screen at the top of this web page, playing his talk from there by clicking on the word “youtube” or “facebook” to be taken to the video on either of those platforms. Note that none of these approaches will yield much if you don’t wait for the time when the video is actually going live. You may want to use the refresh button. We don’t always start precisely on time.

Best of luck to you! It’s not difficult, but or course all technology poses problems, not unlike all of life…

Oh yes, the technology. It delayed us last week, when we had this talk scheduled for February 16th… Tonight, February 21st at 7pm, we’ll make up for the lost opportunity.
