But nothing beats being in the room with the music & the musicians!
On Leap Day 2020,
celebrate jazz in San Francisco
at Bird & Beckett!
Support the organizations
that support the musicians!
2020 is a leap year, and leap day, February 29, 2020, is a Saturday.
What better day to set aside for a celebration of your local bookshop cum jazz club… and its ally Jazz in the Neighborhood.
We’ll up the ante and also celebrate the formation of a new organization cooked up by Mario at Jazz in the Neighborhood and Eric at Bird & Beckett, the Independent Musicians Alliance!
Three shows in a row,
starting at 2pm with the Tammy Lynne Hall Trio,
followed at 4:30 by Mario Guarneri’s own band, called “tbd_a quartet”
and concluding at 7:30pm with the Mads Tolling Trio
All the advanced sale tickets are sold out,
but we’ll squeeze quite a few more folks in at the show.

All funds raised through ticket sales and your donations (after paying the ten musicians involved at the Jazz in the Neighborhood’s “fair wage” rate of $150 each) will be split among the Independent Musicians Alliance, Jazz in the Neighborhood and Bird & Beckett to fund our efforts to make the gigging landscape friendlier to the scrappy and sophisticated jazz musicians of this fair city and its environs!
What’s the Independent Musicians Alliance,
you may ask?
The IMA is a new organization aborning, cooked up by Mario at Jazz in the Neighborhood with Eric at Bird & Beckett, to promote the free flow of information among the gigging jazz musicians of the San Francisco Bay Area so they can advocate effectively for improved wages, benefits and working conditions across a range of workplaces, making the professional independent musician’s life a more economically viable and sustainable one.
The IMA will be a solidarity collective of musicians
setting new and higher standards for their work!

The Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project
Our events are put on under the umbrella of the nonprofit Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project (the "BBCLP"). That's how we fund our ambitious schedule of 300 or so concerts and literary events every year.
The BBCLP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit...

The Independent Musicians Alliance
Gigging musicians! You have nothing to lose but your lack of a collective voice to achieve fair wages for your work!
The IMA can be a conduit for you, if you join in to make it work.
