The Annie Orzen / Joe Gloss Quintet – Annie is back in the neighborhood on summer break and brings a young quintet featuring Joe Gloss on vocals and Annie Orzen, piano. $25 cover charge; $10 students.

Joe Gloss – Voice: Joe is a Bay Area-based jazz vocalist, educator, and trumpeter with deep ties to Los Angeles and Maui County. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Vocal Performance at USC’s Thornton School of Music, he studies with acclaimed artists including Katie Thiroux and Grammy-winner Luciana Souza. Drawing inspiration from jazz legends like Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, and Charlie Parker, Joe brings a soulful and improvisational spirit to timeless melodies. With experience leading ensembles across California and Hawaii, his work reflects a passion for music as a transformative force—one that captures the complexity of the human experience and the power of collective expression.
Annie Orzen – Piano: Annie is a 22-year-old pianist, bandleader, and educator based in San Francisco. While her formal training is rooted in jazz, Annie’s musical voice is shaped by a wide range of influences, from indie pop to classical to jazz-fusion. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano Performance from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with acclaimed pianist Gary Versace. During her time at Eastman, she performed with ensembles including the Eastman Jazz Ensemble (under Christine Jensen), the New Jazz Ensemble, the Studio Orchestra, and the Jazz Vocal Ensemble. She also co-founded several student-led projects, including the jazz/Indian-folk fusion group The Sonic Alchemists and her own Annie Orzen Trio. Annie also formed and leads Seldon, a pop-jazz group that has gained online traction with over 100,000 streams across streaming platforms.
Simon Aks – Guitar: Simon is a San Francisco-based guitar player who graduated from the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts and attends college at UCLA. While initially in the Global Jazz Studies program for guitar performance, he is now pursuing a BS in Electrical Engineering. In high school, he participated in the SFJazz High School All Stars Big Band, the SFCM Roots, Jazz, and American Music ensemble, the CJC Advanced Jazz Workshop I, the Brubeck Summer Jazz Institute, and the Stanford Jazz Workshop. He loves to frequent legendary venues such as SFJazz and Black Cat. Simon has multiple records coming out this summer.
Jacie Grady – Drums: Jaycie, a powerhouse drummer and composer from San Diego, is a graduate of the prestigious RJAM (Roots, Jazz, and American Music) program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Blending bebop, fusion, and free jazz influences, she’s an active collaborator across the Bay Area .
Alan Jones – Bass – Alan is a Denver-born bassist and composer, and a recent graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory. One of the most active young bassists in the scene, he brings an original sound and incredible facility to every performance._///_
