A classic piano trio date. Pianist Denny Berthiaume, bassist Chuck Bennett and drummer Curt Moore, three veterans of the Bay Area jazz scene, have been plying these waters together for many years, all the while pursuing countless other musical pursuits & associations. You won’t regret an evening spent in their company. Do come!
Here’s a sample of their work, from their first lp, Fascinating Rhythms:
.
In 2004, these three San Francisco Bay Area musicians decided to create a rhythm section devoted to their own compositions and individualized arrangements of standards. After recording its studio demo in 2005, “THE TRIO” began a series of public performances in clubs (Shanghai 1930, The Agenda, Anna’s Jazz Island, Piedmont Piano Company) and festivals (San Jose Jazz Festival). Their early recordings include Fascinating Rhythms and Jazz Kidzz (Flying Rabbit, 2011) and Jazz Impressions of The Wizard Of Oz (Flying Rabbit, 2016.)
CURT MOORE, drums, has been playing drums for over 50 years, and has shared the stage and recording studio with a wide variety of artists spanning many musical styles. He has over 100 recordings to his credit. Some of the artists he has recorded and performed with include: Francisco Aguabella, Count Basie Orchestra, Chuck Berry, Ray Brown, Joyce Cooling, John Clayton, Richard Davis, Pete Escovedo, Bruce Forman, Lola Falana, Vic Firth, Mimi Fox, Scott Hamilton, Jimmy Haslip, Jimmy Heath, Jackie and Roy, Andy Narell, Patrick Palomo, Kat Parra, Bernadette Peters, Rufus Reed, San Jose Jazz Orchestra and the Turtle Island String Quartet. Curt has performed for the last 20 years in a Latin-Jazz group called Soul Sauce, and is the author and featured in a highly acclaimed instructional DVD on Afro-Cuban drumset techniques and styles entitled “Grooves you can use.” Contact Curt at www.curtmoore.com.
CHUCK BENNETT, acoustic bass, has toured with Louis Bellson, the Beach Boys, and Maynard Ferguson. In California, he has played with Tom Scott and Art Pepper. He has extensive recording experience in Los Angeles and San Francisco for films, commercials, live theatre and live radio. He is an accomplished bass trombonist with the Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. Contact Chuck at [email protected].
DENNY BERTHIAUME, piano, grew up outside Washington D.C. and Chicago. He is the only non-California native in the group although San Francisco is his home. He has performed with Bobby McFerrin, Diane Schuur and Ed Thigpen. He recorded 4 albums as co-leader of the successful fusion group Solar Plexus. He has appeared at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Russian River Jazz Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival, and San Miguel de Allende International Jazz Festival. He is a retired professor in literature and music at Foothill College in Los Altos, California, and a published playwright. Contact Denny at www.dennyberthiaume.com
