But nothing beats being in the room
with the music & the musicians!

Thursday, July 21 – 7:30pm
Avotcja & Modupue Live Stream
(no live audience tonight)

Avotcja and her band Modupue
have been a cultural nexus for many years.
She works with a large revolving cast of musicians, fantastic talents with experience and acclaim far beyond the Bay Area, and with long association with Avotcja, herself.

Avotcja turns 81 this month!
Help us celebrate!

This evening, Modupue will be a quartet.
They’ll convene in the bookshop,
with the doors to the public tightly shut
but the live stream to the public wide open.

Settle in to take in the live stream tonight!
But PLEASE DONATE! That’s our only revenue stream to pay the musicians!

You’ll find the performance on our YouTube channel or Facebook page.
You can donate per the instructions on the screen, or using this DONATE BUTTON

No audience in the shop, just musicians converging with Avotcja at the center,
to play for you in your living rooms, from the living room that is Bird & Beckett.

Bird & Beckett will pay the musicians a guaranteed fair wage for this date, and ask that you support that with your donations. There will be information on the video screen about how to donate by PayPal, Venmo or the Cash app. You can also email us at [email protected] to pledge a donation, and can mail us a check or call the shop at 415-586-3733 with credit card information during regular store hours.

Or use the donate button in the navigation bar at the top of this website.
Here’s a link to make it easy!

Avotcja is a treasure; so too are her colleagues on the bandstand!
Please enjoy the music and poetry, and contribute to its sustenance!

Two 50-minute sets of music — 7:30-8:20 and 8:40-9:30.

Donate to support Avotcja and to support her colleagues on the bandstand.

Regardless of revenues, we can be relied on to pay the musicians a guaranteed fair wage. If revenues exceed what we’ve promised to the musicians, we’ll share that, too, with Bird & Beckett just retaining a musician’s share.

We’re working towards an equitable future, and we appreciate that you are along on that journey.

Thank you for your donations and for your deep support.
