Zinger Phillips is the brainchild of Grammy-nominated bassist Paul Knight who in the spirit of Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac named the band after two band members other than himself!

Among their recent shows the band backed up Peter Rowan at the 2019 annual Plumas Homegrown Americana Festival in the California High Sierra Mountains.

Mark Holzinger was inducted into the Western Swing Hall of Fame in 2016 for his 25 years as guitarist for the SF Bay Area based Lost Weekend. Mark has performed with Big Joe Turner, Rickie Lee Jones, Joe Williams, Big Mama Thornton, Vince Welnick and Peter Rowan to name a few.Â
David Phillips has played guitar and steel guitar in the Bay Area since the 1980’s, and has performed with the major Bay Area symphonies and has played and/or recorded with Metallica, Les Claypool, Peter Rowan, Tom Waits (Bone Machine), Charlie Hunter Trio (Bing, Bing, Bing), many others including countless other bands. Â
Drummer Michael Pinkham has been gigging in the Bay Area since the early 90s. He’s performed and/or recorded with Joan Baez, the Oakland Symphony, Peter Rowan, Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, San Francisco Mime Troupe, Circus Bella, Kugelplex and countless others. Subbing for Michael, who makes his home in Bolinas and is today dealing with the North Bay fires raging, is Patrick Korte, whose experience includes a long, on-going association with Peter Rowan, starting with the 2014 recording session for “Dharma Blues” in a rhythm section with Jack Casady on bass.

Leader and bassist Paul Knight has spent over 25 years touring & recording with notable bluegrass & Americana artists such as Peter Rowan, Laurie Lewis, David Nelson among others. Unfortunately, he’s unable to make the gig today due to the fires raging around his home in the North Bay. Subbing for Paul is bassist Bing Nathan, a mainstay on the San Francisco music scene who moves effortlessly from jazz to r&b to western swing to trad and gypsy and beyond. He’ll be right at home on the bandstand, where he’s held forth dozens of times in the past.
